Greater Houston Community Partners of Innovative Schools has an exciting opportunity for an Academic Success Coach. The Academic Success Coach will be an integral member of the TRIO Upward Bound's team and responsible for providing guidance and counseling (social, academic, career and financial aid) for assigned program. The Success Coach is responsible for assisting with outreach, recruiting program participants, building relationships with key stakeholders and managing assigned caseload. The successful applicant must be able to work under general supervision.

GRANT-FUNDED: The Academic Success Coach position is grant-funded. This position will be funded solely (100%) through August 31, 2027. At the end of the grant period, this position may be eliminated unless other sources of funds are secured to maintain this position or a similar position. The employee must sign this job description acknowledging receipt of the job description and signing their acknowledgment that this position is grant-funded and is temporarily aligning with the terms of the grant period.
Position Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assumes the responsibility for individual and group counseling activities and for the maintenance of program files.
Assumes the responsibility for maintaining accurate and confidential records of all participants’ contacts and records progress toward matriculation.
Interviews and selects students for participation in the program and the development of cultural activities.
Completes evaluation of academic, personal, and career needs of participants in the program.
Completes Individual Academic Plans (IAP) for assigned students.
Participates in in-serving training, staff development workshops, and departmental meetings.
Prepares monthly reports detailing accomplishments, problems encountered, projections, etc.
Performs data entry into Blumen case management system
Other duties assigned by the Program Director.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience:
A minimum of one year working in an educational setting teaching, advising, and/or tutoring students from diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledgeable of high school graduation requirements and college admission and financial aid requirements and processes. Ability to supervise work-study students and coordinate schedules, as needed. Computer skills include word processing and database applications. Ability to work independently to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Effective presentation skills are required. Ability to establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with school staff, agency representatives, community members, and participants. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred. Case management or student services experience is strongly preferred.

Master’s degree is preferred.

Preference will be given to individuals that have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s targeted population.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development are required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
